this morning. erin mcpike is in wichita, kansas. jennifer delgado is live at the cnn weather center in atlanta. erin, let's start with you. how's it looking? >> reporter: well, it's not quite as heavy as it was last hour but it's still pretty heavy. we've seen snow plows go by here about six times in the last two hours and the roads are still covered. also we've got this ruler, we've been measuring. about an hour ago it was 4 inches. now we're at 5 1/2. but soledad, here's the interesting thing about this storm. we're calling it a thundersnow. there's thunder and lightning that goes along with it. i wish it would happen when i'm out here but i think we've got video, so let's play that video. i don't know if you can hear it. and that's why we're calling it the blizzard of oz. we've seen that a lot on twitter from some people in kansas, so we want to name this storm the blizzard of oz, soledad. >> i thought thundersnow was dramatic enough. let's get right to jennifer d delgado on where the storm is going to head next. >> right now we are watching the storm system and, soledad, this is awe huge o

, soft person. >> cnn's robyn curnow is covering the story from pretoria. i spoke with her just a short time ago. so, robyn, it's important to remember all of these new details are surfacing in a bail hearing. this is not a murder trial as yet. can you explain how the court system works had there, and what is in store for pistorius? >> reporter: well, this has been a bit of a trial within a trial, hasn't it? it's just a bail hearing, but we've been hearing all sorts of evidence from both sides. in fact, the state kind of laying their cards on the table. now that isn't surprising. that often happens here in south africa particularly with such a high profile and, of course, important case, premeditated murder, you know, is a very key and upon charge. so a lot of -- a lot to pull out and try to 0 defend that. in terms of the actual process, there might be a trial by the end of the year at the soonest, the south african court systems, there's backlogs, it's very slow. so they're going to try to hurry it up because it's obviously a high-profile case. you know, the wheels of justice turn very
, but they are still investigating. >>> tonight, cnn has learned that the army has revoked the promotion of paula broadwell. her involvement with david petraeus led to his resignation. broadwell has been approved to a promotion to lieutenant colonel from major last summer. she has been under investigation for having classified information in her home without permission. around army regulations, it says that if new information comes to light within six months of a promotion date, you could be deemed ineligible for that promotion. her security clearance also has not been reinstated. >>> well, with a new term comes a new official portrait and there's a lot of talk about first lady michelle obama's new -- it's still new -- new haircut. much of the talk surrounding the first lady's bangs came from the first lady herself. in an interview with rachael ray, obama jokes that her bangs are part of a quote/unquote mid-life crisis and she says getting a sports car and going bungee jumping are off-limits, at least while she's in the white house, i guess. the portrait was taken in the white house green room ab
